MDI: Interview experiences

Well giving an interview, when you know it could be the most important one for you, sure is tough. To add to it, having the last interview is even weirder. You are surrounded by sea of emotions. So was the case with me, the last interview and quite an important one too (if not the most important yet). There were 2 people a Lady Prof (LP) and Male Prof (MP), and of course me.

I entered the room, and was asked to sit down. Said the thanks, and sat down.

MP: So how are you feeling? How are you feeling about having the last interview?
Me: Obviously it increases anxiety. People come out and give you so many opinions, insights etc. You get anxious what’s going to happen every moment.

MP: So are you nervous?
Me: I am fine now sir.

LP: So what do you expect from us?
Me: Fundas about you checking me if I am suitable for MDI. Acads maybe etc.

MP: So you are studying in Guwahati. Tell me the 7 states of North East and their Capital too
Me: Arunachal- Itanagar. Assam – Dispur. Manipur-Imphal. Mizoram-Aizawl. Tripura-Agartala. Meghalaya-Shillong. (Forgot one for a bit. Just said I have visited a lot, like to travel. Then remembered ) Nagaland – Kohima.

MP: Are you relaxed now?
Me: Yes sir. I am fine.

MP & LP together: So what happened to your hand?
Me: I have a minor fracture sir. Bike accident.
MP: Oh ( sympathizing )

MP: So do you know the spelling of Counseling. Write it down for me.
Me: Yes sir. Wrote down Counseling with single L.
MP: Are you sure
Me: Yes sir. I used to write it with double L, but recently when I wrote like that, got an error in MS word (on travelling). So have started writing with single Ls.

MP goes out

LP: So you like Writing. Can you tell me about styles of writing?
Me: Yes. Don’t know much theory. I blog mostly.

Some fundas. Talked about fiction, and auto-biography. What’s the difference and stuff?

LP: Which authors do you read?
Me: Amitav Ghosh. Dostovesky. Ayn Rand etc etc.

Discussed Dostovesky initially. Asked me the names of books. I mentioned “The Brothers Karamazov”, “The Idiot”, “Crime and Punishment”.

LP: Are you sure Crime and Punishment is by him.
Me: Yes mam. Quite sure.

MP comes in. Hears us talking about Dostovesky.
MP: So have you read Crime and Punishment. Tell me about it
Me: (Smiled. Point verified mam). Yes. Don’t remember the details. Read it 1.5 years back. Told about Brothers Karamazov. A bit about Dostovesky.

Then went to Indian authors. Amitav Ghosh. Sea of Poppies. Glass Palace. A bit more about reading.

MP: That’s it from my side. No work ex.
Me: No sir.
LP: That’s it from my side too. Do you want to ask any questions?
Me: A bit shocked it was over so quick. Asked something about Work ex. Exchanged Goodbyes.

That’s it. As I walked out, it dawned on me, that I wasn’t asked the 3 basic stuff I had prepared for.
1) Tell me about yourself
2) Why MDI? Why MBA?Why Finance?
3) Acads

It was a funny interview, went well I guess. And the panel was quite chilled out and unnerving. It was a nice experience. MY ONLY INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE.
