I finally watched Before Sunrise, a movie from 1995. More so, due to some constant banter about the same from the guy next door. And well, apart from being a love story, it is also a continuous story.
One of the dialogues of the movie goes something like this, “Some thousands of years ago, there were only few thousands of humans. Now there are close to 6 billion of us. If each one of us has a soul, then where did these extra billions souls come from. If you come to think of us, each one soul has now been broken into thousands of pieces. And we are but a tiny fraction of original soul“
Now, how could i ever forget this dialogue. This is amazing point of view, one i may not have ever thought of. Are we then a tiny fraction of original soul. Where are these new souls coming from?
If according to our Hindu philosophy, we all go through various forms of birth ( like insects, and animals ), then all other living forms have souls too. But the number of living forms have grown exponentially. Then what about their souls.
Or we can say, that we cannot count the real number of living beings. Then even if we assume, a constant number of souls. And we take into account decreasing number of other species, we might say that most of them are being born as humans. That means, humanity as a whole is doing a lot of good, and thus getting reborn as humans.
We are on the path of self-destruction, yet we our numbers multiply, souls too. There is no way we can explain the whole thing!!
This leads me to conclude, that soul is but a stupid concept. It aimed to promote charity in temples, and forced people to alter themselves ( just for salvation of the souls ).It has been but a fraud with all humanity.I wish people realize this and start thinking better!!
