Shinrinyoku

Posted on April 3, 2022April 3, 2022 by pranay

Shinrinyoku (森林浴) is a japanese term that loosely means the pleasure of forest bathing. In another words, it highlights the positive psychological benefits of spending time in nature and forest. (Wiki)

This poem was inspired by being in the woods when it was written.

It’s been a long year
Of stress and worries
In these muscles and neurons
Are etched, these memories

At first I thought of it
As nothing
And then it felt a bit
Like something
Not long after
It engulfed me
Like everything

Anxiety became my friend
Irritation my partner
Frustration became my mentor
Anger my lover

At last I fell off
That same cliff
I wanted to climb
To win the world
The brutal slap
I awoke

And found myself
Like waking from a deep slumber
What happened?
Where am I?
My soul was confused

It was time
Came a voice
To let go before
Your body lets go

And one fine morning
I made a choice
To go save myself
To find a way back, home

It’s not easy to heal
It’s harder to let go
But now I am in the forest
Shinrinyoku
