I have heard this often and so must have you. Money is the source of all evil. Its funny how we blame money. True it causes a lot of issues. True it creates complexities and chaos. Even more true is that greed exists. Yet i cant help but think of the words ‘to choose between bad and evil’. Its not a easy choice to make but that’s what we have to do.
Just imagine a world without money. It will be a total chaos. There will be no measure of value. How will you measure value? By 2 truckloads of salt or my love of moon! Does that make sense? For without the existence of money nothing that we see today is possible. How will we barter a space shuttle expedition with my sister’s education. How then will the limited resources be allocated for unending needs?
I don’t believe money is evil. It is the greatest virtue life has provided me. It has given me a fair measure of value. I can now value a car and a cake on the same scale. I don’t believe that you have to hide money or your own value. I don’t believe that you need to hide your own worth. I specially don’t believe in the fact of keeping your salaries from people. If i earn so much, i am worth it! When we can disclose what Mukesh Ambani earns, then why cant i disclose what I earn. Or whats the whole point of it being unethical or rude?
Rather than being source of all evil, money is the source of all luxury and pleasure. In science we generally tend to have a major rule and some minor exceptions to this rule. The same is the case here. For most people money can buy happiness barring a few exceptions and a lot of cases where people don’t want to believe this themselves for the fear of sounding unsocial.
I guess lets just stop this bull-shit about money being wrong. Rather we should embrace it more openly that might help prune out the inefficiencies in the system!
Money is not a natural resource. It is man made, therefore there are many things that get associated with it. Who makes money, how much, when, why, who gets the money, who decides who gets how much? are all questions that don’t have easy answer.
All money today is fiat money, backed by nothing. And therein lies the problem. Why should a pilot get paid 10,000 US Dollar and a Bus driver just 2000 USD? And who decides who gets paid how much? These questions don’t have simple answers.
