Its as if a light appeared, just as the darkness seemed to descend. That’s how it feels after reading this book recently. God is not Dead by Amit Goswami. The central theme is God, and Quantum Physics. Doesn’t seem related, right? Well it is and isn’t in a sense.

The reality is that materialism ( love for something physical ), and spiritualism ( love for something beyond matter ) appear to be 2 sides of the same coin. Two opposites that dont seem to meet. It was the same for me. I was split in 2 parts and both had the 2 extremes. One that wanted to go and meditate in Himalayas. The other wanting to be the owner of the biggest corporation in the world. This fight always continued, and sometimes left me exhausted. How do i fit both of them in my life, to create a perfect harmony?

Quantum Physics on the other hand talks about the fundamental structure of the world. Everything is made of particles that exhibit dual nature, they are matter and also possibility waves at the same time. Until we observe a particle, it remains a wave of possibility and can be anywhere. At the moment of observation it transforms into something material. This event is called Quantum Collapse. This sudden change of possibility to reality cannot be explained. Its because something outside of our space-time domain leads to this collapse. This something can be termed as God. Why? Because this the thing that produces reality from possibility.

Let me state an example. There are 2 people wanting to win a toss. For both of them winning and losing, or a head-tail scenario is likely. The person A wishes for a head. So he is trying to make the quantum collapse into a head state. However the person B is wanting tail. He is trying to make a quantum collapse to tail state. Both being observers can turn possibility into reality. But what happens is, something outside our space-time brings about such a collapse to keep all natural laws valid. This thing is what we may call God, Luck, Destiny.

Various scientific studies have proved the existence of signal-less communication. Or if this communication takes place through signals, then the signal travel at infinite speed ( but nothing can exceed speed of light ). It means if a particle disintegrates into 2 equal and opposite spinning particle, and if both travel a million miles in opposite directions, without us observing. Then at the moment we observe one particle, we are automatically fixing the other particle’s nature. Some sort of communication took place between them to tell which state the other particle has to be. We may say that the quantum collapse and God together can explain this phenomena.

The view to explain everything is broadly divided into 2 terminologies. Upward Causation, which states that the properties of a whole can be attributed completely by the properties of sub-parts. It means you can explain working of a Cell, by the working of its protons neutrons and electrons. Its what the Materialist’s believe, that everything can be explained by matter. The other one is Downward Causation. It states that the whole is always greater than the sum of sub-parts. You cant explain consciousness on working of particles. God is the phenomena which causes Downward Causation.

Other phenomena that can be explained by this God and Quantum Collapse theory is the creation of universe, creation of life, evolution and fossil gaps ( which no theory can explain completely yet ), concepts of morality, ethics etc. I would dig deeper into these details maybe in the next blog.
