Independent: Then why still fighting?

Posted on August 15, 2009January 21, 2018 by pranay

Today is Our Independence Day. India’s Independence Day. 62 years back, this very day, we got our independence from the British. Yet we are still not really free. We are bound by Land, by territory. I am not so well versed with the politics, and country related stuff, but still a small crazy thought floats in my mind. Its like an idea, or just an answer.

What is land without people? Land is unimportant. Land is empty by itself. Its useless. Will Pakistan fight us for Thar Desert, which is a arid piece of land? I do not know, but i dont assume so. Still we fight over parts of Kashmir with Pakistan, parts of North East with China. Is it so important? Each country stakes its claims, but in the end its the people that matter. Each country X believes, the people in the controversial regions think they belong to the country X. That is why they fight, for the people. THEN WHY NOT LET PEOPLE DECIDE.

Answer: Decide on a mutually-acceptable boundary. What is 50 Km of Land, in comparison with 100’s of lives lost in Terrorism and Insurgency. And ask all the people of the area, who they believe they are? If in Kashmir, someone says i am from Pakistan. Then let him move to Pakistan. Let the government help him settle there. If someone says i am Indian, let him live here.

Cant this be a solution. Obviously, it takes effort to ask and relocate people. But it will be much less, than maintaining huge armies in un-inhabitable areas which takes millions of dollars anyways. The people will be happy, the country will consist of truly loyal citizens. The country will be happy. Lives will not be lost, there wont be a need to fight. Let each live where he wants. I know this is not perfect, but yet it aims to reduce monetary and human costs. This idea can be worked upon, modified, and restated in a manner that could really work.

I just wish, that by some idea, maybe other if not this, we find a solution to all territorial fights. So that we can spend more on future, then on past.
