Code Geass

Posted on April 20, 2009January 21, 2018 by pranay

CODE GEASS is what i watched last. It is among the few anime i have watched,  being selective as i am a Science Fiction or Fantasy addict. It comprised of 2 seasons of 25 episodes each. It took me about 2-3 days to complete the journey of 50 episodes. And to sum it up in a single word Unbelievable. The whole anime was by far the best one i have watched and heard about. It was like a addiction i could not stop. Each episode let to something even better and new.

And then, when it finally ended, I was a broken man. It felt like that feeling of loss, of losing something you cannot ever get back. For this is the end, and there’s no way to go from here. The most touching reason was how it ended. It ended in a tragic ending, yet the good one. It’s the kind of ending you see very rarely and that too in anime. In movies, its always feel good till and after the end.

The story is related to a world in which the British empire ( referred to as Britannia empire ) has conquered a third of the world, with EU and Chinese Federation having the rest. The Britannia empire is by far the most powerful. It has high tech war machines called Knightmares ( something similar to transformer’s ). All of the high tech machinery is powered by a element called Sakuradite ( similar to nuclear fuel ). This element is found mostly in Japan, which thus is a very important state. With the help of these advanced Knightmares, against which the Japanese army was helpless, the Britannia conquer Japan.

With these they remove its name, flag etc and the area henceforth is called Area 11 and people are called Elevens or Numbers. They are the lower class and thus treated with contempt. Then the story starts, with the discarded son of the Britannian Empreor, named Lelouche finding a mysterious lady C.C. who gives him a power called Geass. This Geass makes anyone absolutely obey any command from Lelouche. He wants the end of Britannia and so with Geass and his absolutely phenomenal strategic and mental skills, plans to bring about the downfall of the empire.

He masked his identity with a name called Zero, for protecting all around him. Zero was a symbol of justice. He formed the Order of Black Knights, but he used almost anyone and everythig as pieces on Chessboard to succeed. He wanted to succeed because his mother was killed, left unprotected by his father and also because his sister, who cannot see or walk due to the same incident, wants a kinder world. For this he had to kill his own brothers and sisters, even those who were good ( which was really hurting ). In the end he usurpes the king, and regains the throne for himself, and even manages to conquer the whole world in a way. He brings about hatred from all of the world. This actaully unites the world against a single enemy, HIM. And in the end he asks his best friend to don the mask of zero and kill him, so that the world is happy again.

He had to die then, to succeed and he even brought wrath of his own sister for reaching his objective. Even she hated him. But when he died and fell almost near her sister who touched him, and due to some uncanny effects of the Geass she was able to mentally see the sacrifice, the whole plan his brother had brought about. And she was the only one who knew what he had done, and the only one to cry for her brother.
I also had this feeling, what if he did not die. The lady who gave him the power , C.C, was a immortal person. Maybe this geass had made him immortal too. His sister Nunnally has become the governor for the world. What if he comes back. Will there be a 3rd season? I just so wish there is, that he is back. The last 5 minutes of the anime, left a emptiness, it’s what made it trasncend from Excellent to the Best.
