Has stuttered at times<\/p>\n
Almost died at other moments<\/p>\n
But it has held strong<\/p>\n
To guide our way<\/p>\n
\n
But as we head into 2017<\/p>\n
Reason has run out of its fuel<\/p>\n
For light is never an ally<\/p>\n
Of people who seek power<\/p>\n
And hence the war wages<\/p>\n
To bury this flame<\/p>\n

For if reason lived on<\/p>\n
In our hearts and minds<\/p>\n
We would love<\/p>\n
And show compassion<\/p>\n
But that would bring unity<\/p>\n
Something despised<\/p>\n
By a small part of humanity<\/p>\n

The voice of reason<\/p>\n
Is now but a faint echo<\/p>\n
The flame of reason<\/p>\n
Lays smoldering<\/p>\n
The word of reason<\/p>\n
Now an obscure language<\/p>\n

I haven’t any hope<\/p>\n
And yet still I hope<\/p>\n
For reason to become<\/p>\n
